A First Look: Kämpfer
Kämpfer is about a boy named Natsuru Senou who was chosen to become a Kämpfer to fight in some crazy battle. The twist is, he becomes a girl every time he has to fight.
It’s been ages since I’ve seen anything gender-bender related, and Kampfer was a most pleasant surprise. For a moment, I thought it would be a bad show, but I was completely wrong.
The show starts with Girl-Natsuru running from another girl that’s trying to kill her. Once she’s cornered, she’s seemingly shot and falls off the building. Then we go back in time a bit to see how Natsuru became a girl in the first place. The bracelet on his wrist will glow whenever he’s about to transform to a girl.
Natsuru turns back into a guy after the stuffed animal, Harakiri Tiger knocked him out after explaining the kampfer stuff. It’s already the next morning and Natsuru is late to catch the bus to school and runs into the girl he has a crush on, Kaede Sakura, who also missed the bus. After a short chat, Natsuru’s bracelet starts to glow and the girl who attacked him last night is back again in an attempt to kill him. The attacker reveals herself as Akane Mishima and attempts to attack Sakura, but Natsuru saves her, and then saves Akane from a collapsing telephone pole. These acts of bravery cause Sakura to develop a crush on Natsuru’s Female half.
Natsuru makes it to school eventually and after having a talk with his friend, he’s told that there’s a girl looking for him from the girl’s side of the school. Apparently the school they go to is separated by gender. Natsuru goes outside to speak to the girl, who reveals herself to be Akane, the girl that attacked him earlier. The two then head to the library and they discuss the whole Kampfer stuff. Akane’s been a kampfer for six months she says. Eventually his bracelet starts to glow after a hilarious sexual moment and he becomes a girl, forcing him to stay on the girls’ side of the school until it wears off.
Some time later, Natsuru, now back to normal, He’s going home for the day until Sakura asks him if he knew the girl that saved her earlier that day since she’s developed feelings for her. Natsuru is stunned. The next day, he starts to get to know Akane more better since he knows that they’re both Blue Kampfers. Of course, Akane becomes a Kampfer and gets mad at Natsuru for adding ‘chan’ to her name. The two are attacked suddenly by a sword slicing across the library. Natsuru tries to act as bait and Akane sees Sakura there and accuses her of being the culprit. A single shot is fired.
Alright, this show started off pretty good. Decent animation quality, and the entertainment was pretty good. I laughed at Natsuru’s reaction to Sakura falling for his Female-self and mostly at Akane’s unintentional sexual innuendos. She wants a cawk bad.
One thing i have to say though is the whole Kampfer thing, Why does it have to be girls only?
I’m sure my questions will be answered. Until then, i’ll continue to blog this show along with White Album 2 and Railgun.
